Help!: Surviving a Road Trip With an Active Baby

We’re preparing to take our first road trip with our little one this weekend. We’re heading to Michigan for our friends’ wedding, and if we don’t take into account the Chicago traffic we will most likely hit, the drive is supposed to take about 5 and a half hours. M usually does pretty well in the car, but we haven’t taken a trip that lasted more than an hour since she was a newborn, so we’re a little nervous about it. When we go to multiple places, she does reach a point when she no longer wants to be in her carseat. Yesterday, I even caught her trying to figure out how to unbuckle herself from the carseat (and I’m sure she may figure it out soon since she’s already figured out how to take the outlet covers off all over the house). She just wanted to escape, and we were only out for a half hour at the point!

Yesterday, we went out and bought a DVD player for the car and some DVDs including Super Why!, a compilation of Nick Jr shows, and an hour long Strawberry Shortcake movie. We also bought some extra snacks for her to munch on during the ride. And I’m pretty excited that I received the Munchie Mug today, a spill-proof snack container (look for the review and giveaway at a later date :) ).

Since my husband and I both have to work tomorrow, we’re not too worried about the car ride to Michigan. We probably will not be leaving until 7 or 8 at night, so hopefully, she’ll be tired enough to sleep most of the way there. Then again, she did not go to sleep until past 11 tonight because she is trying to master the art of walking and just didn’t want to go to sleep. But I am more nervous about the ride back, when we’ll be driving during the day.
