Today has been quite eventful for our country! What better way to “celebrate” than to talk about wine? 😉 The Thumbs Up WineFinder mobile app is designed to help you find a great bottle of wine at your local store at the best value. It gives you multiple options to find the best bottle of wine to pair with meals, bring to parties, give as gifts, or just fit your personal taste. You can find a quick demo on how to use the app by Thumbs Up Wine here.
The Thumbs Up WineFinder mobile app is free, but I was provided with the premium version of the app, and I love it! I am by no means a wine connoisseur, but I do love my occasional glass of wine especially when winding down from a rough day or over a great conversation with friends. The app really helped me find the best bottle of wine for me, especially since I usually have no idea what I’m looking for and am often overwhelmed by all the choices. It is easy to maneuver and includes the grocery stores in my area.
One of the features I love about the app, is that it has so many options to make sure you find exactly what you are looking for. In the screen shots above, I wanted to find the best wine to pair with my Japanese food I was having the other night. I chose the In-Store Search, Meal, Jewel-Osco (for the store), Ethnic Food, Japanese, and a price range of $1-$10. The best match was the 2012 Mirassou California Moscato retailing at $9 with a value of $14. The information presented includes flavor intensity, tasting notes like types of flavors, and food pairings. I love that the value is expressed in dollars so you know how much bang you’re getting for your buck. The premium version of the app also allows you to save wines you enjoy and share via social media (the free version allows someone to find the best wines in a store but limits the options on social sharing, saving, and food pairings).
The mobile app also includes informational videos and video reviews, which I also enjoyed. Thumbs Up Wine provided me with a bottle of 2011 Villa Alena, Moscato d’Asti, Moscato for me to compare with their video review. They describe the wine as sweet with honeyed-peach, round apple, and flowers. A brown sugar note adds dimension, and the finish is clean and smooth. I thought their description was pretty accurate and it was a very good wine! The only thing they might have missed is although they stated in their review that there is nothing offensive about it, I thought the smell was somewhat unpleasant. However, if you don’t smell it, the wine is delicious and I could probably drink a whole bottle by myself if I want. I love the sweetness of it since I do not like strong tasting wines.
I’m happy to give one (1) My Joy My World reader a gift code to download the premium version of the Thumbs Up WineFinder mobile app on Android or iPhone AND the choice of a bottle of one of the following wines (click on the links to watch the video reviews):
- 2011 Villa Alena, Moscato d’Asti, Moscato: This is a sweet wine, with honeyed-peach, round apple, and flowers. A brown sugar note adds dimension, and the finish is clean and smooth.
- 2011 Chateau Ste Michelle, Columbia Valley, Chardonnay: Creamy banana and pear fruit is balanced nicely by oak and vanilla, then adds complexity with butterscotch, cinnamon-spice, butter, and tropical fruit. A tremendous effort that results in a more-than-double-your-money extraordinary value.
- 2010 Bogle Vineyards Essential Red, Old Vine, Red Blend: A nice, dry red. Blackberry, blueberry, and boysenberry are fresh and juicy, then add a beam of sweet dark raspberry, followed by dark chocolate, coffee, plum, cassis and cherry, and notes of currant, spice, and raisin. An elegant, complex wine that is 1 in a 1,000 at this price point.
The prizes will be provided by Thumbs Up Wine, and entries will be accepted through Wednesday, October 9th, at 12:00 (midnight) CT. Must be age 21+ to enter. Enter below and make sure to check back after 10/9 to see if you won (I will announce when a winner is chosen on Facebook as a reminder).
